Not all PRP systems are the same. It has been shown that platelet concentrations differ depending on the PRP separation method and formulation. Dose ranging studies using Beta Thromboglobulin (BTG) as a model for Platelet Gel illustrate that a normal physiologic concentration of platelets is optimal to maintain a balanced wound environment.25 The non-concentrated physiologic formulation supports natural healing of chronic wounds. Activating platelets at higher concentrations can create inhibitors that break down growth factors which may reduce the effectiveness of the Platelet Gel.
