Overview
of the Company
Cytomedix
is a biotechnology company that develops and licenses autologous cellular
processes (i.e., using the patient’s own body products) based on significant
patents in this field. Our primary product offering is the AutoloGel™
System, indicated for use in certain chronic wounds. The AutoloGel™ System
produces autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) gel. Scientific studies have
documented that platelets contain multiple growth factors and plasma
contains fibrinogen. When activated, fibrinogen develops a fibrin matrix
scaffold.(Everts, et.al 2006).
The Company currently markets the AutoloGel™ System as three components, the
AutoloGel™ System Centrifuge II, the AutoloGel™ System Wound Dressing Kit,
and the AutoloGel™ System Reagent Kit which contains certain reagents needed
for the AutoloGel process such as bovine thrombin and ACD-A anticoagulant.
In September of 2007, the FDA cleared the AutoloGel™ System for “use in
exuding wounds, such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers and diabetic ulcers and
for the management of debrided wounds.”
The launch of the AutoloGel™ System provides the US healthcare community
with the only PRP Gel system cleared for use in chronic wounds.
Multiple growth factor solutions were introduced to the US market in the
1980’s and since then the body of clinical evidence has grown. In January
2001, Cytomedix obtained exclusive ownership of certain technology, assets
and intellectual property rights associated with the use of autologous
multiple growth factors from Curative Health Services. In addition to our
own marketed AutoloGel System, Cytomedix has licensed the technology for use
in orthopedic and surgical applications.
The AutoloGel System represents a clinically documented approach to the
management of wounds. The AutoloGel System represents a convenient point of
care option for clinicians seeking to utilize a system that provides an
autologous platelet gel for use on wounds.
Cytomedix will continue to develop, market, and license autologous cellular
processes based on blood derived technologies in order to address the vast
healthcare challenges represented in the wound care markets. For more
